Actron Technology Corporation (GTSM:8255) shareholders have seen the share price descend 11% over the month. Looking on the brighter side, the stock is actually up over twelve months. But to be blunt its return of 11% fall short of what you could have got from an index fund (around 38%).

To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.

During the last year, Actron Technology actually saw its earnings per share drop 48%.

So we don't think that investors are paying too much attention to EPS. Therefore, it seems likely that investors are putting more weight on metrics other than EPS, at the moment.

Unfortunately Actron Technology's fell 6.2% over twelve months. So the fundamental metrics don't provide an obvious explanation for the share price gain.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We've already covered Actron Technology's share price action, but we should also mention its total shareholder return (TSR). Arguably the TSR is a more complete return calculation because it accounts for the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested), along with the hypothetical value of any discounted capital that have been offered to shareholders. Its history of dividend payouts mean that Actron Technology's TSR of 17% over the last year is better than the share price return.

A Different Perspective

Actron Technology provided a TSR of 17% over the last twelve months. But that was short of the market average. The silver lining is that the gain was actually better than the average annual return of 4% per year over five year. This suggests the company might be improving over time. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Actron Technology better, we need to consider many other factors. Take risks, for example - Actron Technology has 2 warning signs (and 1 which is a bit concerning) we think you should know about.
