Have Insiders Been Buying Sheng Siong Group Ltd (SGX:OV8) Shares This Year?
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell Sheng Siong Group Ltd (SGX:OV8), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
Do Insider Transactions Matter?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Sheng Siong Group
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when CEO & Executive Director Hock Chee Lim bought S$315k worth of shares at a price of S$1.05 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of S$1.58. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.
Hock Chee Lim purchased 474.10k shares over the year. The average price per share was S$1.05. Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that Sheng Siong Group insiders own 29% of the company, worth about S$679m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Sheng Siong Group Tell Us?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like Sheng Siong Group insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
