Returns On Capital Are Showing Encouraging Signs At Advenica (STO:ADVE)
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? One common approach is to try and find a company with returns on capital employed (ROCE) that are increasing, in conjunction with a growing amount of capital employed. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. So when we looked at Advenica (STO:ADVE) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Advenica:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.055 = kr6.3m ÷ (kr226m - kr112m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024).
Thus, Advenica has an ROCE of 5.5%. In absolute terms, that's a low return and it also under-performs the Software industry average of 21%.

What Does the ROCE Trend For Advenica Tell Us?
Advenica has recently broken into profitability so their prior investments seem to be paying off. The company was generating losses five years ago, but now it's earning 5.5% which is a sight for sore eyes. And unsurprisingly, like most companies trying to break into the black, Advenica is utilizing 177% more capital than it was five years ago. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, both common traits of a multi-bagger.
On a side note, Advenica's current liabilities are still rather high at 49% of total assets. This can bring about some risks because the company is basically operating with a rather large reliance on its suppliers or other sorts of short-term creditors. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, it can be beneficial if this ratio is lower.
Our Take On Advenica's ROCE
To the delight of most shareholders, Advenica has now broken into profitability. Since the stock has returned a staggering 664% to shareholders over the last five years, it looks like investors are recognizing these changes. With that being said, we still think the promising fundamentals mean the company deserves some further due diligence.
