Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB (publ) Produces Hydrogen with Only 0.1 Mg of Iridium Per Square Centimeter - A Breakthrough Technology for PEM Electrolyzers Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB (publ) has developed a porous transport electrode (PTE) that reduces the amount of iridium catalysts in PEM electrolyzers to a minimum of 0.1 mg/cm2- the level considered to make large-scale production of PEM electrolyzers profitable. The reduction represents a 95% reduction in iridium compared to conventional PEM electrolyzers, which provides a solution to the major challenge that the overuse of iridium poses to the hydrogen industry. In a durability test over 250 hours of continuous operation (at 2 A/cm2), Smoltek Hydrogen's PTE produced hydrogen with a catalyst loading of only 0.1 mg iridium/cm2 - without any degradation of the nanostructure of the electrolyzer cell. The test results demonstrate that the company's anode electrode technology is durable and efficient, while reducing iridium usage by 95% compared to conventional technology. Smoltek Hydrogen’s nanostructure for PTE has been developed in record time. The first prototypes with 0.5 mg iridium/cm2 began serious testing in 2023. The results showed that further research into how Smoltek's nanostructures can be configured to survive in the harsh electrochemical environment of an electrolyzer cell could make it possible to reach down to 0.1 mg iridium/cm2. High iridium usage has long been a major technical challenge for the rapidly growing green hydrogen industry produced from intermittent energy sources such as solar and wind power, as ’s conventional PEM electrolyzers use around 2.0 milligrams of iridium per square centimeter. The results from last year’s reliability test with 0.2 mg iridium/cm2 made a big impression in the hydrogen industry, and the company received inquiries from several potential customers who expressed interest in conducting their own tests of the technology. Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB Strengthens Its IP Portfolio with A New Patent in Hydrogen Technology Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB has been granted a new patent in hydrogen technology. The patent relates to an innovative solution for corrosion protection of nanostructures with non-noble metal oxides on the anode in PEM electrolysis, which improves the durability and efficiency of the electrodes at low iridium content. With this patent, Smoltek strengthens its position in the growing market for green hydrogen, while expanding the IP portfolio to a total of 92 granted patents. Smoltek has been granted a new patent, the sixth in the order, in the area of solutions for hydrogen applications. Most of the hydrogen produced comes from fossil hydrocarbons, resulting in huge emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. However, hydrogen production through electrolysis of water can be made 100% fossil-free and avoiding those emissions. A main obstacle though is the use of expensive precious metals, like iridium, as catalysts in the process of the proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolyzers. Current PEM electrolyzers face significant challenges due to the corrosive conditions within the electrolysis cell. The combination of an acidic environment and high electrical potential requires the use of highly chemically stable materials, such as iridium and platinum. By using carbon nanostructures as a catalyst support for the anode electrode, Smoltek Hydrogen has shown that a reduction of the iridium content by 95 percent in PEM electrolysers is possible. To protect the nanostructure, it is coated with a platinum coating. With the recently granted patent, Smoltek Hydrogen introduces an innovation that coats the nanostructure with non-precious metal oxides, further reducing the use of expensive platinum, and thus the cost of the anode. In addition, the innovation also improves the cell's durability and efficiency, making the solution even more attractive to electrolyzer manufacturers. Announcement • Oct 07

Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB announces group company Smotek Semi Develops New Technology Generation of it's CNF-MIM Capacitors That Enables A Powerful Increase in the Capacitors in Capacitors Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB announced that the group company Smotek Semi has developed a new technology generation of the company's capacitor technology, CNF-MIM. The new generation, called Gen-Zero, is the foundation for achieving the goal of manufacturing different types of capacitors with very high capacitance density. High capacitance density combined with an extremely small form factor is a requirement for next-generation capacitors for advanced electronic products, such as mobile phones. During 2023 group company Smoltek Semi has worked on developing a new technology generation of the Company's CNF-MIM capacitors with high volumetric capacitance density. Gen-Zero, as it is called, has recently been completed as part of the collaboration with YAGEO, with Smoltek Semi owning all rights to the result. With the new Gen-Zero capacitors, Smoltek can create a volumetric capacitance density of up to 120 nanofarads per square millimeter and per 1 micrometer of carbon nanofiber. This is comparable to the best capacitors on the market. The capacitance values in the Gen-Zero capacitors are, however, lower than the competitors. This is due to the fact that Smoltek Semi has not yet optimized the length of the fibers. The carbon nanofibers in Gen-Zero are only a few of micrometers tall. In the next generation, Gen-One, the ambition is to grow longer carbon nanofibers, up to 10 micrometers tall, which is expected to bring the capacitance values on par with the competitors. New major risk - Shareholder dilution The company's shareholders have been substantially diluted in the past year. Increase in shares outstanding: 60% This is considered a major risk. Shareholder dilution occurs when there is an increase in the number of shares on issue that is not proportionally distributed between all shareholders. Often due to the company raising equity capital or some options being converted into stock. All else being equal, if there are more shares outstanding then each existing share will be entitled to a lower proportion of the company's total earnings, thus reducing earnings per share (EPS). While dilution might not always result in lower EPS (like if the company is using the capital to fund an EPS accretive acquisition) in a lot cases it does, along with lower dividends per share and less voting power at shareholder meetings. Currently, the following risks have been identified for the company: Major Risks Share price has been highly volatile over the past 3 months (32% average weekly change). Earnings have declined by 39% per year over the past 5 years. Shareholders have been substantially diluted in the past year (60% increase in shares outstanding). Minor Risks Revenue is less than US$5m (kr10m revenue, or US$1.0m). Market cap is less than US$100m (kr106.2m market cap, or US$10.4m). Announcement • Nov 12
