Impressive Earnings May Not Tell The Whole Story For Acrinova (STO:ACRI A)
Acrinova AB (publ) (STO:ACRI A) just reported some strong earnings, and the market reacted accordingly with a healthy uplift in the share price. However, we think that shareholders may be missing some concerning details in the numbers.

How Do Unusual Items Influence Profit?
Importantly, our data indicates that Acrinova's profit received a boost of kr27m in unusual items, over the last year. While we like to see profit increases, we tend to be a little more cautious when unusual items have made a big contribution. When we crunched the numbers on thousands of publicly listed companies, we found that a boost from unusual items in a given year is often not repeated the next year. And, after all, that's exactly what the accounting terminology implies. We can see that Acrinova's positive unusual items were quite significant relative to its profit in the year to December 2024. As a result, we can surmise that the unusual items are making its statutory profit significantly stronger than it would otherwise be.

Our Take On Acrinova's Profit Performance
As we discussed above, we think the significant positive unusual item makes Acrinova's earnings a poor guide to its underlying profitability. As a result, we think it may well be the case that Acrinova's underlying earnings power is lower than its statutory profit. The silver lining is that its EPS growth over the last year has been really wonderful, even if it's not a perfect measure. Of course, we've only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors. So while earnings quality is important, it's equally important to consider the risks facing Acrinova at this point in time.
