Does Loomis (STO:LOOMIS) Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Loomis (STO:LOOMIS). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide Loomis with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.

How Fast Is Loomis Growing?

If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. We can see that in the last three years Loomis grew its EPS by 14% per year. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. EBIT margins for Loomis remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 23% to kr27b. That's a real positive.

Are Loomis Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Insider interest in a company always sparks a bit of intrigue and many investors are on the lookout for companies where insiders are putting their money where their mouth is. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. However, small purchases are not always indicative of conviction, and insiders don't always get it right.

In twelve months, insiders sold kr145k worth of Loomis shares. But the silver lining to that cloud is that Erik Aslund, the Chief Legal Officer, spent kr252k buying shares at an average price of kr302. And that's a reason to be optimistic.

Should You Add Loomis To Your Watchlist?

As previously touched on, Loomis is a growing business, which is encouraging. While some companies are struggling to grow EPS, Loomis seems free from that morose affliction. Despite there being a solitary insider adding to their holdings, it's enough to consider adding this to the watchlist.
