Here's Why I Think Suntech (WSE:SUN) Might Deserve Your Attention Today
Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Suntech (WSE:SUN). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Suntech Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
In the last three years Suntech's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a firecracker arcing through the night sky, Suntech's EPS shot from zł0.097 to zł0.18, over the last year. Year on year growth of 81% is certainly a sight to behold. That could be a sign that the business has reached a true inflection point.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Suntech shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 5.9% to 15%, and revenue is growing. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Since Suntech is no giant, with a market capitalization of zł29m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are Suntech Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Suntech insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 57% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Valued at only zł29m Suntech is really small for a listed company. So despite a large proportional holding, insiders only have zł16m worth of stock. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!
Is Suntech Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Suntech's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Suntech for a spot on your watchlist. However, before you get too excited we've discovered 4 warning signs for Suntech (2 are a bit concerning!) that you should be aware of.
Although Suntech certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
