Market Cool On Wikana S.A.'s (WSE:WIK) Revenues Pushing Shares 27% Lower

To the annoyance of some shareholders, Wikana S.A. (WSE:WIK) shares are down a considerable 27% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. Longer-term, the stock has been solid despite a difficult 30 days, gaining 12% in the last year.

Following the heavy fall in price, considering around half the companies operating in Poland's Consumer Durables industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.2x, you may consider Wikana as an solid investment opportunity with its 0.6x P/S ratio. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

What Does Wikana's Recent Performance Look Like?

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Wikana as its revenue has been rising very briskly. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to dwindle, which has kept the P/S suppressed. Those who are bullish on Wikana will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for Wikana, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Wikana's Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Wikana would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 132% last year. The latest three year period has also seen a 22% overall rise in revenue, aided extensively by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been respectable for the company.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 2.8% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Wikana's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

What We Can Learn From Wikana's P/S?

Wikana's recently weak share price has pulled its P/S back below other Consumer Durables companies. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

We're very surprised to see Wikana currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see a lot of volatility.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for Wikana (of which 1 is a bit unpleasant!) you should know about.
