Dom Development S.A.'s (WSE:DOM) Business And Shares Still Trailing The Market
Dom Development S.A.'s (WSE:DOM) price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 9.9x might make it look like a buy right now compared to the market in Poland, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 12x and even P/E's above 24x are quite common. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/E.
Recent times have been advantageous for Dom Development as its earnings have been rising faster than most other companies. One possibility is that the P/E is low because investors think this strong earnings performance might be less impressive moving forward. If not, then existing shareholders have reason to be quite optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

How Is Dom Development's Growth Trending?
Dom Development's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the market.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 30% gain to the company's bottom line. Pleasingly, EPS has also lifted 113% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the earnings growth recently has been superb for the company.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the seven analysts covering the company suggest earnings should grow by 6.1% each year over the next three years. Meanwhile, the rest of the market is forecast to expand by 15% per year, which is noticeably more attractive.
With this information, we can see why Dom Development is trading at a P/E lower than the market. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
The Bottom Line On Dom Development's P/E
Using the price-to-earnings ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
As we suspected, our examination of Dom Development's analyst forecasts revealed that its inferior earnings outlook is contributing to its low P/E. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/E as they concede future earnings probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
The company's balance sheet is another key area for risk analysis. Our free balance sheet analysis for Dom Development with six simple checks will allow you to discover any risks that could be an issue.
