How To Calculate Return On Equity?
ROE can be calculated by using the formula:
Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity
So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Decora is:
26% = zł45m ÷ zł173m (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
The 'return' is the amount earned after tax over the last twelve months. Another way to think of that is that for every PLN1 worth of equity, the company was able to earn PLN0.26 in profit.
Why Is ROE Important For Earnings Growth?
Thus far, we have learned that ROE measures how efficiently a company is generating its profits. Depending on how much of these profits the company reinvests or "retains", and how effectively it does so, we are then able to assess a company’s earnings growth potential. Assuming everything else remains unchanged, the higher the ROE and profit retention, the higher the growth rate of a company compared to companies that don't necessarily bear these characteristics.
Decora's Earnings Growth And 26% ROE
Firstly, we acknowledge that Decora has a significantly high ROE. Second, a comparison with the average ROE reported by the industry of 14% also doesn't go unnoticed by us. Under the circumstances, Decora's considerable five year net income growth of 36% was to be expected.
As a next step, we compared Decora's net income growth with the industry, and pleasingly, we found that the growth seen by the company is higher than the average industry growth of 12%.
The basis for attaching value to a company is, to a great extent, tied to its earnings growth. Doing so will help them establish if the stock's future looks promising or ominous. Is Decora fairly valued compared to other companies? These 3 valuation measures might help you decide.

Additionally, Decora has paid dividends over a period of at least ten years which means that the company is pretty serious about sharing its profits with shareholders. Our latest analyst data shows that the future payout ratio of the company over the next three years is expected to be approximately 61%.
Conclusion
In total, we are pretty happy with Decora's performance. Especially the high ROE, Which has contributed to the impressive growth seen in earnings.
