América Móvil. de's (BMV:AMXB) Dividend Will Be MX$0.26

América Móvil, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:AMXB) has announced that it will pay a dividend of MX$0.26 per share on the 10th of November. This takes the annual payment to 2.7% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

América Móvil. de's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Prior to this announcement, América Móvil. de's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 150.8% over the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 26% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Dividend Volatility

The company's dividend history has been marked by instability, with at least one cut in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of MX$0.26 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of MX$0.52. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 7.2% over that duration. A reasonable rate of dividend growth is good to see, but we're wary that the dividend history is not as solid as we'd like, having been cut at least once.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to evaluate if earnings per share is growing, which could point to a growing dividend in the future. América Móvil. de has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 18% per annum. Since earnings per share is growing at an acceptable rate, and the payout policy is balanced, we think the company is positioning itself well to grow earnings and dividends in the future.
