INNO Instrument (KOSDAQ:215790) Share Prices Have Dropped 77% In The Last Three Years
It is a pleasure to report that the INNO Instrument Inc. (KOSDAQ:215790) is up 43% in the last quarter. But only the myopic could ignore the astounding decline over three years. Indeed, the share price is down a whopping 77% in the last three years. So it sure is nice to see a bit of an improvement. But the more important question is whether the underlying business can justify a higher price still.

Because INNO Instrument made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.
Over the last three years, INNO Instrument's revenue dropped 24% per year. That's definitely a weaker result than most pre-profit companies report. And as you might expect the share price has been weak too, dropping at a rate of 21% per year. We prefer leave it to clowns to try to catch falling knives, like this stock. There is a good reason that investors often describe buying a sharply falling stock price as 'trying to catch a falling knife'. Think about it.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between INNO Instrument's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. INNO Instrument hasn't been paying dividends, but its TSR of -74% exceeds its share price return of -77%, implying it has either spun-off a business, or raised capital at a discount; thereby providing additional value to shareholders.
A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that INNO Instrument rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 58% over the last year. What is absolutely clear is that is far preferable to the dismal 20% average annual loss suffered over the last three years. The optimist would say this is evidence that the stock has bottomed, and better days lie ahead. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 4 warning signs with INNO Instrument (at least 2 which are a bit concerning) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
