MOBASELtd (KOSDAQ:101330) Will Want To Turn Around Its Return Trends
If we want to find a potential multi-bagger, often there are underlying trends that can provide clues. Amongst other things, we'll want to see two things; firstly, a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an expansion in the company's amount of capital employed. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. In light of that, when we looked at MOBASELtd (KOSDAQ:101330) and its ROCE trend, we weren't exactly thrilled.
Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on MOBASELtd is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.08 = ₩46b ÷ (₩1.1t - ₩541b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to March 2024).
So, MOBASELtd has an ROCE of 8.0%. On its own that's a low return, but compared to the average of 6.1% generated by the Tech industry, it's much better.

While the past is not representative of the future, it can be helpful to know how a company has performed historically, which is why we have this chart above. What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us
In terms of MOBASELtd's historical ROCE movements, the trend isn't fantastic. Around five years ago the returns on capital were 10%, but since then they've fallen to 8.0%. Meanwhile, the business is utilizing more capital but this hasn't moved the needle much in terms of sales in the past 12 months, so this could reflect longer term investments. It may take some time before the company starts to see any change in earnings from these investments.
While on the subject, we noticed that the ratio of current liabilities to total assets has risen to 49%, which has impacted the ROCE. If current liabilities hadn't increased as much as they did, the ROCE could actually be even lower. What this means is that in reality, a rather large portion of the business is being funded by the likes of the company's suppliers or short-term creditors, which can bring some risks of its own.
In Conclusion...
To conclude, we've found that MOBASELtd is reinvesting in the business, but returns have been falling. And in the last five years, the stock has given away 37% so the market doesn't look too hopeful on these trends strengthening any time soon. In any case, the stock doesn't have these traits of a multi-bagger discussed above, so if that's what you're looking for, we think you'd have more luck elsewhere.
One more thing: We've identified 3 warning signs with MOBASELtd (at least 1 which is concerning) , and understanding them would certainly be useful.
