Some Confidence Is Lacking In Ace Technologies Corp. (KOSDAQ:088800) As Shares Slide 28%

Ace Technologies Corp. (KOSDAQ:088800) shares have retraced a considerable 28% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 63% loss during that time.

Although its price has dipped substantially, it's still not a stretch to say that Ace Technologies' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Communications industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 1x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Has Ace Technologies Performed Recently?

For instance, Ace Technologies' receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. Perhaps investors believe the recent revenue performance is enough to keep in line with the industry, which is keeping the P/S from dropping off. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Ace Technologies' earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Ace Technologies' is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 24%. This means it has also seen a slide in revenue over the longer-term as revenue is down 20% in total over the last three years. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 25% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.

With this in mind, we find it worrying that Ace Technologies' P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. It seems most investors are ignoring the recent poor growth rate and are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects. There's a good chance existing shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the recent negative growth rates.

The Final Word

With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for Ace Technologies looks to be in line with the rest of the Communications industry. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

Our look at Ace Technologies revealed its shrinking revenues over the medium-term haven't impacted the P/S as much as we anticipated, given the industry is set to grow. Even though it matches the industry, we're uncomfortable with the current P/S ratio, as this dismal revenue performance is unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve markedly, investors will have a hard time accepting the share price as fair value.
