The Ace Technologies Corp. (KOSDAQ:088800) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 31%. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 39% over that time.

Although its price has surged higher, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about Ace Technologies' P/S ratio of 1.2x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Communications industry in Korea is also close to 1x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How Has Ace Technologies Performed Recently?

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Ace Technologies as its revenue has been rising very briskly. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the share price, and thus the P/S ratio, from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Ace Technologies would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 33% last year. However, this wasn't enough as the latest three year period has seen the company endure a nasty 29% drop in revenue in aggregate. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 31% growth in the next 12 months, the company's downward momentum based on recent medium-term revenue results is a sobering picture.

With this information, we find it concerning that Ace Technologies is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are ignoring the recent poor growth rate and are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects. Only the boldest would assume these prices are sustainable as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh on the share price eventually.

What Does Ace Technologies' P/S Mean For Investors?

Ace Technologies appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

Our look at Ace Technologies revealed its shrinking revenues over the medium-term haven't impacted the P/S as much as we anticipated, given the industry is set to grow. Even though it matches the industry, we're uncomfortable with the current P/S ratio, as this dismal revenue performance is unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the the circumstances surrounding the recent medium-term improve, it wouldn't be wrong to expect a a difficult period ahead for the company's shareholders.

Having said that, be aware Ace Technologies is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, you should know about.

Of course, profitable companies with a history of great earnings growth are generally safer bets. So you may wish to see this free collection of other companies that have reasonable P/E ratios and have grown earnings strongly.
