Should You Be Adding Shinsung E&G (KRX:011930) To Your Watchlist Today?
It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Shinsung E&G (KRX:011930). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Quickly Is Shinsung E&G Increasing Earnings Per Share?
As one of my mentors once told me, share price follows earnings per share (EPS). It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. It certainly is nice to see that Shinsung E&G has managed to grow EPS by 21% per year over three years. So it's not surprising to see the company trades on a very high multiple of (past) earnings.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Shinsung E&G maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 20% to ₩482b. That's progress.

While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check Shinsung E&G's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are Shinsung E&G Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Shinsung E&G shares worth a considerable sum. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth ₩133b. That equates to 23% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. So it might be my imagination, but I do sense the glimmer of an opportunity.
Is Shinsung E&G Worth Keeping An Eye On?
For growth investors like me, Shinsung E&G's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. Further, the high level of insider ownership impresses me, and suggests that I'm not the only one who appreciates the EPS growth. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. Don't forget that there may still be risks. For instance, we've identified 3 warning signs for Shinsung E&G (1 is a bit unpleasant) you should be aware of.
Although Shinsung E&G certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
