RFHIC Corporation's (KOSDAQ:218410) 27% Share Price Plunge Could Signal Some Risk
RFHIC Corporation (KOSDAQ:218410) shares have had a horrible month, losing 27% after a relatively good period beforehand. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 26% in that time.
Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think RFHIC's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 12.1x is worth a mention when the median P/E in Korea is similar at about 11x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/E without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.
RFHIC certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing earnings more than most other companies. It might be that many expect the strong earnings performance to wane, which has kept the P/E from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Is There Some Growth For RFHIC?
RFHIC's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the market.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew earnings per share by an impressive 48% last year. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 324% overall rise in EPS, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably welcomed those medium-term rates of earnings growth.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the one analyst covering the company suggest earnings growth is heading into negative territory, declining 33% over the next year. With the market predicted to deliver 22% growth , that's a disappointing outcome.
In light of this, it's somewhat alarming that RFHIC's P/E sits in line with the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects, but the analyst cohort is not so confident this will happen. There's a good chance these shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/E falls to levels more in line with the negative growth outlook.
What We Can Learn From RFHIC's P/E?
Following RFHIC's share price tumble, its P/E is now hanging on to the median market P/E. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-earnings ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
Our examination of RFHIC's analyst forecasts revealed that its outlook for shrinking earnings isn't impacting its P/E as much as we would have predicted. Right now we are uncomfortable with the P/E as the predicted future earnings are unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless these conditions improve, it's challenging to accept these prices as being reasonable.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for RFHIC you should know about.
