Revenues Not Telling The Story For BCnC Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:146320) After Shares Rise 26%
Those holding BCnC Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:146320) shares would be relieved that the share price has rebounded 26% in the last thirty days, but it needs to keep going to repair the recent damage it has caused to investor portfolios. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 63% share price drop in the last twelve months.
Even after such a large jump in price, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about BCnC's P/S ratio of 1.6x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Semiconductor industry in Korea is also close to 1.2x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How Has BCnC Performed Recently?
BCnC could be doing better as it's been growing revenue less than most other companies lately. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is moderate because investors think this lacklustre revenue performance will turn around. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.
Keen to find out how analysts think BCnC's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?
There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like BCnC's to be considered reasonable.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a decent 8.1% gain to the company's revenues. Revenue has also lifted 23% in aggregate from three years ago, partly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably been satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the two analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 33% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 44% growth forecast for the broader industry.
With this information, we find it interesting that BCnC is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently many investors in the company are less bearish than analysts indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. These shareholders may be setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the growth outlook.
The Final Word
Its shares have lifted substantially and now BCnC's P/S is back within range of the industry median. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
Given that BCnC's revenue growth projections are relatively subdued in comparison to the wider industry, it comes as a surprise to see it trading at its current P/S ratio. At present, we aren't confident in the P/S as the predicted future revenues aren't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. This places shareholders' investments at risk and potential investors in danger of paying an unnecessary premium.
