Lacklustre Performance Is Driving MiCo Ltd.'s (KOSDAQ:059090) 26% Price Drop
The MiCo Ltd. (KOSDAQ:059090) share price has softened a substantial 26% over the previous 30 days, handing back much of the gains the stock has made lately. Indeed, the recent drop has reduced its annual gain to a relatively sedate 3.6% over the last twelve months.
Since its price has dipped substantially, MiCo may be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Semiconductor industry in Korea have P/S ratios greater than 1.8x and even P/S higher than 4x aren't out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

How MiCo Has Been Performing
It looks like revenue growth has deserted MiCo recently, which is not something to boast about. One possibility is that the P/S is low because investors think this benign revenue growth rate will likely underperform the broader industry in the near future. Those who are bullish on MiCo will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

In order to justify its P/S ratio, MiCo would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. Still, the latest three year period has seen an excellent 38% overall rise in revenue, in spite of its uninspiring short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been great for the company, but investors will want to ask why it has slowed to such an extent.
Comparing the recent medium-term revenue trends against the industry's one-year growth forecast of 89% shows it's noticeably less attractive.
With this information, we can see why MiCo is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.
What Does MiCo's P/S Mean For Investors?
The southerly movements of MiCo's shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
In line with expectations, MiCo maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its recent three-year growth being lower than the wider industry forecast. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price experience a reversal of fortunes anytime soon.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for MiCo that you need to be mindful of.
