Amidst increasing losses, Investors bid up Signetics (KOSDAQ:033170) 47% this past week
Signetics Corporation (KOSDAQ:033170) has rebounded strongly over the last week, with the share price soaring 47%. But that doesn't help the fact that the three year return is less impressive. After all, the share price is down 38% in the last three years, significantly under-performing the market.
Although the past week has been more reassuring for shareholders, they're still in the red over the last three years, so let's see if the underlying business has been responsible for the decline.

Given that Signetics didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
In the last three years Signetics saw its revenue shrink by 22% per year. That's definitely a weaker result than most pre-profit companies report. On the face of it we'd posit the share price fall of 11% compound, over three years is well justified by the fundamental deterioration. The key question now is whether the company has the capacity to fund itself to profitability, without more cash. The company will need to return to revenue growth as quickly as possible, if it wants to see some enthusiasm from investors.

A Different Perspective
We regret to report that Signetics shareholders are down 15% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 4.0%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 0.5% per year over five years. We realise that Baron Rothschild has said investors should "buy when there is blood on the streets", but we caution that investors should first be sure they are buying a high quality business. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. For example, we've discovered 3 warning signs for Signetics (1 is significant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
