Here's Why We Think Hanall BiopharmaLtd (KRX:009420) Is Well Worth Watching

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Hanall BiopharmaLtd (KRX:009420). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Hanall BiopharmaLtd Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Over the last three years, Hanall BiopharmaLtd has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Like a firecracker arcing through the night sky, Hanall BiopharmaLtd's EPS shot from ₩145 to ₩419, over the last year. You don't see 190% year-on-year growth like that, very often.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Hanall BiopharmaLtd's EBIT margins are flat but, of some concern, its revenue is actually down. And that does make me a little more cautious of the stock.

Are Hanall BiopharmaLtd Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that Hanall BiopharmaLtd insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth ₩195b. I would find that kind of skin in the game quite encouraging, if I owned shares, since it would ensure that the leaders of the company would also experience my success, or failure, with the stock.

Does Hanall BiopharmaLtd Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

Hanall BiopharmaLtd's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Hanall BiopharmaLtd for a spot on your watchlist. What about risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for Hanall BiopharmaLtd you should know about.

Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
