Investors Don't See Light At End Of JOYCITY Corporation's (KOSDAQ:067000) Tunnel And Push Stock Down 25%
The JOYCITY Corporation (KOSDAQ:067000) share price has softened a substantial 25% over the previous 30 days, handing back much of the gains the stock has made lately. Longer-term shareholders will rue the drop in the share price, since it's now virtually flat for the year after a promising few quarters.
Since its price has dipped substantially, JOYCITY may be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Entertainment industry in Korea have P/S ratios greater than 1.9x and even P/S higher than 4x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How JOYCITY Has Been Performing
JOYCITY hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. The P/S ratio is probably low because investors think this poor revenue performance isn't going to get any better. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

JOYCITY's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 9.7% decrease to the company's top line. The last three years don't look nice either as the company has shrunk revenue by 28% in aggregate. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 13% as estimated by the sole analyst watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to expand by 17%, which is noticeably more attractive.
With this information, we can see why JOYCITY is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
What Does JOYCITY's P/S Mean For Investors?
JOYCITY's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We've established that JOYCITY maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its forecast growth being lower than the wider industry, as expected. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
