What trends should we look for it we want to identify stocks that can multiply in value over the long term? Firstly, we'd want to identify a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and then alongside that, an ever-increasing base of capital employed. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. So when we looked at OSTEONIC (KOSDAQ:226400) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.

Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)

For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for OSTEONIC:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.098 = ₩6.8b ÷ (₩87b - ₩17b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).

Therefore, OSTEONIC has an ROCE of 9.8%. On its own, that's a low figure but it's around the 8.6% average generated by the Medical Equipment industry.

What Does the ROCE Trend For OSTEONIC Tell Us?

We're glad to see that ROCE is heading in the right direction, even if it is still low at the moment. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last two years to 9.8%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 69% more capital is being employed now too. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at OSTEONIC thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.

In another part of our analysis, we noticed that the company's ratio of current liabilities to total assets decreased to 20%, which broadly means the business is relying less on its suppliers or short-term creditors to fund its operations. This tells us that OSTEONIC has grown its returns without a reliance on increasing their current liabilities, which we're very happy with.

In Conclusion...

All in all, it's terrific to see that OSTEONIC is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last five years, these patterns are being accounted for by investors.
