Choheung (KRX:002600) Share Prices Have Dropped 38% In The Last Three Years
While it may not be enough for some shareholders, we think it is good to see the Choheung Corporation (KRX:002600) share price up 15% in a single quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been less than pleasing. After all, the share price is down 38% in the last three years, significantly under-performing the market.

While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
Choheung saw its EPS decline at a compound rate of 8.1% per year, over the last three years. This reduction in EPS is slower than the 15% annual reduction in the share price. So it's likely that the EPS decline has disappointed the market, leaving investors hesitant to buy. The less favorable sentiment is reflected in its current P/E ratio of 11.52.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Choheung's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Choheung's TSR of was a loss of 31% for the 3 years. That wasn't as bad as its share price return, because it has paid dividends.
A Different Perspective
Choheung shareholders gained a total return of 23% during the year. But that was short of the market average. On the bright side, that's still a gain, and it's actually better than the average return of 6% over half a decade This could indicate that the company is winning over new investors, as it pursues its strategy. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Even so, be aware that Choheung is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 2 of those don't sit too well with us...
