OVAL (TSE:7727) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To ¥10.00
OVAL Corporation's (TSE:7727) dividend will be increasing from last year's payment of the same period to ¥10.00 on 3rd of December. This takes the dividend yield to 4.3%, which shareholders will be pleased with.
OVAL's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. However, OVAL's earnings easily cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
Over the next year, EPS could expand by 29.5% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 34%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Dividend Volatility
The company has a long dividend track record, but it doesn't look great with cuts in the past. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from ¥5.00 total annually to ¥20.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 15% per annum over that time. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. OVAL has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 30% per annum. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
We Really Like OVAL's Dividend
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that OVAL is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. Taking the debate a bit further, we've identified 2 warning signs for OVAL that investors need to be conscious of moving forward. Is OVAL not quite the opportunity you were looking for?
