OVAL (TSE:7727) Has Affirmed Its Dividend Of ¥7.00
OVAL Corporation (TSE:7727) has announced that it will pay a dividend of ¥7.00 per share on the 4th of December. Based on this payment, the dividend yield on the company's stock will be 3.7%, which is an attractive boost to shareholder returns.

OVAL's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable. Before making this announcement, OVAL was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.
If the trend of the last few years continues, EPS will grow by 18.5% over the next 12 months. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 25% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Dividend Volatility
The company has a long dividend track record, but it doesn't look great with cuts in the past. Since 2014, the dividend has gone from ¥5.00 total annually to ¥16.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 12% a year over that time. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. It's encouraging to see that OVAL has been growing its earnings per share at 18% a year over the past five years. OVAL definitely has the potential to grow its dividend in the future with earnings on an uptrend and a low payout ratio.
OVAL Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is good to see that the dividend is staying consistent, and we don't think there is any reason to suspect this might change over the medium term. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
