Yokowo Co., Ltd. (TSE:6800) May Have Run Too Fast Too Soon With Recent 30% Price Plummet

Unfortunately for some shareholders, the Yokowo Co., Ltd. (TSE:6800) share price has dived 30% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 33% share price drop.

Although its price has dipped substantially, it's still not a stretch to say that Yokowo's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Electronic industry in Japan, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.5x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Yokowo Has Been Performing

Yokowo certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. Perhaps the market is expecting this level of performance to taper off, keeping the P/S from soaring. If not, then existing shareholders have reason to be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Keen to find out how analysts think Yokowo's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start .

How Is Yokowo's Revenue Growth Trending?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like Yokowo's to be considered reasonable.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 9.1% last year. The solid recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 26% in total over the last three years. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably been satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the three analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 5.3% per annum over the next three years. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to expand by 7.7% per annum, which is noticeably more attractive.

With this in mind, we find it intriguing that Yokowo's P/S is closely matching its industry peers. Apparently many investors in the company are less bearish than analysts indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. These shareholders may be setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the growth outlook.

What We Can Learn From Yokowo's P/S?

Following Yokowo's share price tumble, its P/S is just clinging on to the industry median P/S. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

Our look at the analysts forecasts of Yokowo's revenue prospects has shown that its inferior revenue outlook isn't negatively impacting its P/S as much as we would have predicted. At present, we aren't confident in the P/S as the predicted future revenues aren't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. This places shareholders' investments at risk and potential investors in danger of paying an unnecessary premium.
