ISB (TSE:9702) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To ¥55.00

ISB Corporation (TSE:9702) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 31st of March to ¥55.00. This will take the annual payment to 3.0% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

While the dividend yield is important for income investors, it is also important to consider any large share price moves, as this will generally outweigh any gains from distributions. Investors will be pleased to see that ISB's stock price has increased by 35% in the last 3 months, which is good for shareholders and can also explain a decrease in the dividend yield.

ISB's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. However, ISB's earnings easily cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.

Over the next year, EPS could expand by 13.4% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 39% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

ISB Has A Solid Track Record

The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ¥12.50, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥55.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 16% a year over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. ISB has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 13% per annum. ISB definitely has the potential to grow its dividend in the future with earnings on an uptrend and a low payout ratio.

ISB Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
