DoshishaLtd (TSE:7483) Is Increasing Its Dividend To ¥50.00

Doshisha Co.,Ltd. (TSE:7483) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 3rd of December to ¥50.00. This takes the dividend yield to 4.1%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

DoshishaLtd's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Prior to this announcement, DoshishaLtd's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

Over the next year, EPS could expand by 9.7% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 51% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

DoshishaLtd Has A Solid Track Record

Even over a long history of paying dividends, the company's distributions have been remarkably stable. The dividend has gone from an annual total of ¥30.00 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of ¥100.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 13% a year over that time. So, dividends have been growing pretty quickly, and even more impressively, they haven't experienced any notable falls during this period.

The Dividend Has Growth Potential

Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. We are encouraged to see that DoshishaLtd has grown earnings per share at 9.7% per year over the past five years. Since earnings per share is growing at an acceptable rate, and the payout policy is balanced, we think the company is positioning itself well to grow earnings and dividends in the future.

We Really Like DoshishaLtd's Dividend

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that DoshishaLtd is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
