San-Ai Obbli's (TSE:8097) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's

The board of San-Ai Obbli Co., Ltd. (TSE:8097) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥50.00 on the 1st of July, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. Even though the dividend went up, the yield is still quite low at only 2.9%.

While the dividend yield is important for income investors, it is also important to consider any large share price moves, as this will generally outweigh any gains from distributions. Investors will be pleased to see that San-Ai Obbli's stock price has increased by 31% in the last 3 months, which is good for shareholders and can also explain a decrease in the dividend yield.

San-Ai Obbli's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings

Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. However, prior to this announcement, San-Ai Obbli's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share could rise by 11.7% over the next year if the trend from the last few years continues. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 44%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

San-Ai Obbli Has A Solid Track Record

The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. The dividend has gone from an annual total of ¥13.50 in 2014 to the most recent total annual payment of ¥60.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 16% a year over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. It's encouraging to see that San-Ai Obbli has been growing its earnings per share at 12% a year over the past five years. With a decent amount of growth and a low payout ratio, we think this bodes well for San-Ai Obbli's prospects of growing its dividend payments in the future.

San-Ai Obbli Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that San-Ai Obbli is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
