QuickLtd (TSE:4318) Is Increasing Its Dividend To ¥50.00

The board of Quick Co.,Ltd. (TSE:4318) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥50.00 on the 2nd of December, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This will take the dividend yield to an attractive 4.4%, providing a nice boost to shareholder returns.

QuickLtd's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable. Prior to this announcement, QuickLtd's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share could rise by 9.7% over the next year if the trend from the last few years continues. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 58% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Dividend Volatility

While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The annual payment during the last 10 years was ¥16.00 in 2015, and the most recent fiscal year payment was ¥100.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 20% per annum over that time. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.

The Dividend Has Growth Potential

With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. QuickLtd has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 9.7% per annum. Earnings are on the uptrend, and it is only paying a small portion of those earnings to shareholders.

We Really Like QuickLtd's Dividend

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that QuickLtd is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one.
