The board of Kondotec Inc. (TSE:7438) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥23.00 on the 27th of November, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This will take the annual payment to 3.3% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

Kondotec's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. However, Kondotec's earnings easily cover the dividend. This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.
If the trend of the last few years continues, EPS will grow by 4.5% over the next 12 months. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 35% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.
Kondotec Has A Solid Track Record
The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. Since 2014, the dividend has gone from ¥15.50 total annually to ¥46.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 11% a year over that time. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Earnings has been rising at 4.5% per annum over the last five years, which admittedly is a bit slow. If Kondotec is struggling to find viable investments, it always has the option to increase its payout ratio to pay more to shareholders.
Kondotec Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Are management backing themselves to deliver performance?
