The analysts greatly increased their revenue estimates, suggesting a stark improvement in business fundamentals.

Per-share earnings are expected to increase 4.4% to ₹11.80. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of ₹86b and earnings per share (EPS) of ₹9.85 in 2022. With these upgrades, we're not surprised to see that the analysts have lifted their price target 29% to ₹113 per share. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals at ₹134 per share, while the most bearish prices it at ₹81.50. This shows there is still some diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. The analysts are definitely expecting Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals' growth to accelerate, with the forecast 34% annualised growth to the end of 2022 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 6.3% per annum over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 14% per year. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest takeaway for us from these new estimates is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, with improved earnings power expected for this year. Fortunately, analysts also upgraded their revenue estimates, and our data indicates sales are expected to perform better than the wider market. With a serious upgrade to expectations and a rising price target, it might be time to take another look at Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals.

Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2023, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
