Returns On Capital Are Showing Encouraging Signs At Global Health (NSE:MEDANTA)
What trends should we look for it we want to identify stocks that can multiply in value over the long term? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. So when we looked at Global Health (NSE:MEDANTA) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Global Health:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.18 = ₹6.3b ÷ (₹41b - ₹6.4b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2023).
So, Global Health has an ROCE of 18%. In absolute terms, that's a satisfactory return, but compared to the Healthcare industry average of 14% it's much better.

What Can We Tell From Global Health's ROCE Trend?
The trends we've noticed at Global Health are quite reassuring. The numbers show that in the last five years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 18%. The amount of capital employed has increased too, by 89%. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, a combination that's common among multi-baggers.
The Bottom Line On Global Health's ROCE
A company that is growing its returns on capital and can consistently reinvest in itself is a highly sought after trait, and that's what Global Health has. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last year, these patterns are being accounted for by investors. So given the stock has proven it has promising trends, it's worth researching the company further to see if these trends are likely to persist.
