Quess' (NSE:QUESS) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's
The board of Quess Corp Limited (NSE:QUESS) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ₹8.00 on the 29th of November, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This will take the annual payment to 3.3% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

Quess' Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Based on the last payment, Quess was quite comfortably earning enough to cover the dividend. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 164.3%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 25%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Quess Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
It's not possible for us to make a backward looking judgement just based on a short payment history. This doesn't mean that the company can't pay a good dividend, but just that we want to wait until it can prove itself.
The Dividend's Growth Prospects Are Limited
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. Let's not jump to conclusions as things might not be as good as they appear on the surface. Although it's important to note that Quess' earnings per share has basically not grown from where it was five years ago, which could erode the purchasing power of the dividend over time.
In Summary
In summary, while it's always good to see the dividend being raised, we don't think Quess' payments are rock solid. The company is generating plenty of cash, which could maintain the dividend for a while, but the track record hasn't been great. We would probably look elsewhere for an income investment.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Taking the debate a bit further, we've identified 1 warning sign for Quess that investors need to be conscious of moving forward. Looking for more high-yielding dividend ideas?
