Investors Shouldn't Overlook The Favourable Returns On Capital At SRM Contractors (NSE:SRM)
If you're not sure where to start when looking for the next multi-bagger, there are a few key trends you should keep an eye out for. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. So, when we ran our eye over SRM Contractors' (NSE:SRM) trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on SRM Contractors is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.27 = ₹785m ÷ (₹4.1b - ₹1.2b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2025).
Thus, SRM Contractors has an ROCE of 27%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 15% earned by companies in a similar industry.

How Are Returns Trending?
We'd be pretty happy with returns on capital like SRM Contractors. The company has consistently earned 27% for the last four years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 523% in that time. Now considering ROCE is an attractive 27%, this combination is actually pretty appealing because it means the business can consistently put money to work and generate these high returns. If these trends can continue, it wouldn't surprise us if the company became a multi-bagger.
On a side note, SRM Contractors has done well to reduce current liabilities to 29% of total assets over the last four years. This can eliminate some of the risks inherent in the operations because the business has less outstanding obligations to their suppliers and or short-term creditors than they did previously.
The Bottom Line
SRM Contractors has demonstrated its proficiency by generating high returns on increasing amounts of capital employed, which we're thrilled about. And long term investors would be thrilled with the 128% return they've received over the last year. So while the positive underlying trends may be accounted for by investors, we still think this stock is worth looking into further.
