PIX Transmissions (NSE:PIXTRANS) Will Pay A Larger Dividend Than Last Year At ₹9.00

PIX Transmissions Limited (NSE:PIXTRANS) has announced that it will be increasing its periodic dividend on the 25th of August to ₹9.00, which will be 29% higher than last year's comparable payment amount of ₹7.00. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 0.4% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.

PIX Transmissions' Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

It would be nice for the yield to be higher, but we should also check if higher levels of dividend payment would be sustainable. However, prior to this announcement, PIX Transmissions' dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

If the trend of the last few years continues, EPS will grow by 30.1% over the next 12 months. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 11% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Dividend Volatility

Although the company has a long dividend history, it has been cut at least once in the last 10 years. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ₹1.50, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ₹7.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 17% per annum over that time. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. It's encouraging to see that PIX Transmissions has been growing its earnings per share at 30% a year over the past five years. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock.

We Really Like PIX Transmissions' Dividend

Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. Taking the debate a bit further, we've identified 1 warning sign for PIX Transmissions that investors need to be conscious of moving forward.
