With EPS Growth And More, Bank of India (NSE:BANKINDIA) Makes An Interesting Case
It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Bank of India (NSE:BANKINDIA). While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is Bank of India Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
In the last three years Bank of India's earnings per share took off; so much so that it's a bit disingenuous to use these figures to try and deduce long term estimates. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Over the last year, Bank of India increased its EPS from ₹7.27 to ₹7.79. That's a modest gain of 7.0%.
Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. It's noted that Bank of India's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort our analysis of its margins. Bank of India maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 5.1% to ₹155b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are Bank of India Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Prior to investment, it's always a good idea to check that the management team is paid reasonably. Pay levels around or below the median, can be a sign that shareholder interests are well considered. Our analysis has discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like Bank of India with market caps between ₹166b and ₹530b is about ₹51m.
The CEO of Bank of India was paid just ₹3.3m in total compensation for the year ending March 2022. This could be considered a token amount, and indicates that the company does not need to use payment to motivate the CEO - that is often a good sign. CEO remuneration levels are not the most important metric for investors, but when the pay is modest, that does support enhanced alignment between the CEO and the ordinary shareholders. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.
Is Bank of India Worth Keeping An Eye On?
As previously touched on, Bank of India is a growing business, which is encouraging. To add to this, the modest CEO compensation should tell investors that the directors have an active interest in delivering the best for shareholders.
