Further weakness as Pomvom (TLV:PMVM) drops 11% this week, taking one-year losses to 47%
Passive investing in an index fund is a good way to ensure your own returns roughly match the overall market. While individual stocks can be big winners, plenty more fail to generate satisfactory returns. Unfortunately the Pomvom Ltd (TLV:PMVM) share price slid 47% over twelve months. That's well below the market return of 36%. Pomvom may have better days ahead, of course; we've only looked at a one year period. Shareholders have had an even rougher run lately, with the share price down 32% in the last 90 days. This could be related to the recent financial results - you can catch up on the most recent data by reading our company report.
After losing 11% this past week, it's worth investigating the company's fundamentals to see what we can infer from past performance.

Pomvom wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
In the last year Pomvom saw its revenue grow by 351%. That's well above most other pre-profit companies. Given the revenue growth, the share price drop of 47% seems quite harsh. Our sympathies to shareholders who are now underwater. Prima facie, revenue growth like that should be a good thing, so it's worth checking whether losses have stabilized. Our brains have evolved to think in linear fashion, so there's value in learning to recognize exponential growth. We are, in some ways, simply the wisest of the monkeys.

We're pleased to report that the CEO is remunerated more modestly than most CEOs at similarly capitalized companies. But while CEO remuneration is always worth checking, the really important question is whether the company can grow earnings going forward. A Different Perspective
Given that the market gained 36% in the last year, Pomvom shareholders might be miffed that they lost 47%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. With the stock down 32% over the last three months, the market doesn't seem to believe that the company has solved all its problems. Given the relatively short history of this stock, we'd remain pretty wary until we see some strong business performance. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For example, we've discovered 4 warning signs for Pomvom (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
