Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Duniec Bros (TLV:DUNI). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.
How Fast Is Duniec Bros Growing?
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Over the last three years, Duniec Bros has grown EPS by 8.0% per year. That might not be particularly high growth, but it does show that per-share earnings are moving steadily in the right direction.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Duniec Bros shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 23% to 34%, and revenue is growing. That's great to see, on both counts.

While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check Duniec Bros's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are Duniec Bros Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that Duniec Bros insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. With a whopping ₪189m worth of shares as a group, insiders have plenty riding on the company's success. That holding amounts to 18% of the stock on issue, thus making insiders influential, and aligned, owners of the business.
Does Duniec Bros Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
One positive for Duniec Bros is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. You still need to take note of risks, for example - Duniec Bros has 2 warning signs we think you should be aware of.
