Did You Participate In Any Of Dorsel (B.A.Z.)'s (TLV:DRSL) Fantastic 159% Return ?
When you buy a stock there is always a possibility that it could drop 100%. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. One great example is Dorsel (B.A.Z.) Ltd (TLV:DRSL) which saw its share price drive 106% higher over five years. On top of that, the share price is up 27% in about a quarter. But this move may well have been assisted by the reasonably buoyant market (up 23% in 90 days).

To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.
Dorsel (B.A.Z.)'s earnings per share are down 1.4% per year, despite strong share price performance over five years.
So it's hard to argue that the earnings per share are the best metric to judge the company, as it may not be optimized for profits at this point. Since the change in EPS doesn't seem to correlate with the change in share price, it's worth taking a look at other metrics.
In contrast revenue growth of 6.4% per year is probably viewed as evidence that Dorsel (B.A.Z.) is growing, a real positive. It's quite possible that management are prioritizing revenue growth over EPS growth at the moment.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Dorsel (B.A.Z.)'s total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Dividends have been really beneficial for Dorsel (B.A.Z.) shareholders, and that cash payout contributed to why its TSR of 159%, over the last 5 years, is better than the share price return.
A Different Perspective
Investors in Dorsel (B.A.Z.) had a tough year, with a total loss of 2.6%, against a market gain of about 3.8%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 21% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Dorsel (B.A.Z.) better, we need to consider many other factors.
