Puxing Energy (HKG:90) Is Looking To Continue Growing Its Returns On Capital
Finding a business that has the potential to grow substantially is not easy, but it is possible if we look at a few key financial metrics. One common approach is to try and find a company with returns on capital employed (ROCE) that are increasing, in conjunction with a growing amount of capital employed. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. So when we looked at Puxing Energy (HKG:90) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Puxing Energy is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.14 = CN¥200m ÷ (CN¥1.9b - CN¥483m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2021).
Therefore, Puxing Energy has an ROCE of 14%. In absolute terms, that's a satisfactory return, but compared to the Renewable Energy industry average of 6.9% it's much better.
