Risks Still Elevated At These Prices As DIT Group Limited (HKG:726) Shares Dive 35%
Unfortunately for some shareholders, the DIT Group Limited (HKG:726) share price has dived 35% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 57% loss during that time.
In spite of the heavy fall in price, there still wouldn't be many who think DIT Group's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Hong Kong's Real Estate industry is similar at about 0.5x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How DIT Group Has Been Performing
As an illustration, revenue has deteriorated at DIT Group over the last year, which is not ideal at all. Perhaps investors believe the recent revenue performance is enough to keep in line with the industry, which is keeping the P/S from dropping off. If you like the company, you'd at least be hoping this is the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on DIT Group's earnings, revenue and cash flow. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?
DIT Group's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 54% decrease to the company's top line. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 54% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Weighing that medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 6.0% shows it's an unpleasant look.
With this in mind, we find it worrying that DIT Group's P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. Apparently many investors in the company are way less bearish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Only the boldest would assume these prices are sustainable as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh on the share price eventually.
What Does DIT Group's P/S Mean For Investors?
With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for DIT Group looks to be in line with the rest of the Real Estate industry. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.
Our look at DIT Group revealed its shrinking revenues over the medium-term haven't impacted the P/S as much as we anticipated, given the industry is set to grow. Even though it matches the industry, we're uncomfortable with the current P/S ratio, as this dismal revenue performance is unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the the circumstances surrounding the recent medium-term improve, it wouldn't be wrong to expect a a difficult period ahead for the company's shareholders.
It is also worth noting that we have found 3 warning signs for DIT Group (2 are significant!) that you need to take into consideration.
