Midea Real Estate Holding (HKG:3990) Has Announced That Its Dividend Will Be Reduced To CN¥0.80

Midea Real Estate Holding Limited (HKG:3990) is reducing its dividend from last year's comparable payment to CN¥0.80 on the 8th of August. The dividend yield of 9.5% is still a nice boost to shareholder returns, despite the cut.

Midea Real Estate Holding's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings

A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, Midea Real Estate Holding's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 15.4%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 55%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Midea Real Estate Holding's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency

The dividend has fallen 35% over that period. Declining dividends isn't generally what we look for as they can indicate that the company is running into some challenges.

With a relatively unstable dividend, and a poor history of shrinking dividends, it's even more important to see if EPS is growing.
