Subdued Growth No Barrier To China Silver Group Limited (HKG:815) With Shares Advancing 207%
The China Silver Group Limited (HKG:815) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 207%. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 20% over that time.
Even after such a large jump in price, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about China Silver Group's P/S ratio of 0.1x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Metals and Mining industry in Hong Kong is also close to 0.5x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How China Silver Group Has Been Performing
China Silver Group certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the share price, and thus the P/S ratio, from rising. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.
Although there are no analyst estimates available for China Silver Group, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For China Silver Group?
There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like China Silver Group's to be considered reasonable.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 71% last year. Revenue has also lifted 17% in aggregate from three years ago, mostly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably been satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 9.5% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this information, we find it interesting that China Silver Group is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly limited recent growth rates and are willing to pay up for exposure to the stock. They may be setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with recent growth rates.
What We Can Learn From China Silver Group's P/S?
China Silver Group appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
Our examination of China Silver Group revealed its poor three-year revenue trends aren't resulting in a lower P/S as per our expectations, given they look worse than current industry outlook. When we see weak revenue with slower than industry growth, we suspect the share price is at risk of declining, bringing the P/S back in line with expectations. Unless there is a significant improvement in the company's medium-term performance, it will be difficult to prevent the P/S ratio from declining to a more reasonable level.
It is also worth noting that we have found 2 warning signs for China Silver Group (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you need to take into consideration.
