If EPS Growth Is Important To You, Sinopharm Group (HKG:1099) Presents An Opportunity
It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Sinopharm Group (HKG:1099). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Quickly Is Sinopharm Group Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. Over the last three years, Sinopharm Group has grown EPS by 8.2% per year. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note Sinopharm Group achieved similar EBIT margins to last year, revenue grew by a solid 8.3% to CN¥592b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are Sinopharm Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Prior to investment, it's always a good idea to check that the management team is paid reasonably. Pay levels around or below the median, can be a sign that shareholder interests are well considered. For companies with market capitalisations between CN¥29b and CN¥87b, like Sinopharm Group, the median CEO pay is around CN¥7.3m.
Sinopharm Group's CEO took home a total compensation package worth CN¥6.3m in the year leading up to December 2022. That comes in below the average for similar sized companies and seems pretty reasonable. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when it's reasonable, that gives a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.
Is Sinopharm Group Worth Keeping An Eye On?
One important encouraging feature of Sinopharm Group is that it is growing profits. To add to this, the modest CEO compensation should tell investors that the directors have an active interest in delivering the best for shareholders. So all in all Sinopharm Group is worthy at least considering for your watchlist. Of course, just because Sinopharm Group is growing does not mean it is undervalued.
