Ocean One Holding (HKG:8476) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year
The board of Ocean One Holding Ltd. (HKG:8476) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of HK$0.04 on the 8th of September, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This takes the dividend yield to 5.1%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

Ocean One Holding's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Before making this announcement, Ocean One Holding was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Over the next year, EPS could expand by 23.8% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 22% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Ocean One Holding Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
It is great to see that Ocean One Holding has been paying a stable dividend for a number of years now, however we want to be a bit cautious about whether this will remain true through a full economic cycle. Since 2018, the annual payment back then was HK$0.022, compared to the most recent full-year payment of HK$0.04. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 13% per annum over that time. We're not overly excited about the relatively short history of dividend payments, however the dividend is growing at a nice rate and we might take a closer look.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. It's encouraging to see that Ocean One Holding has been growing its earnings per share at 24% a year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
We Really Like Ocean One Holding's Dividend
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
