Goldstream Investment's (HKG:1328) Stock Price Has Reduced 55% In The Past Five Years
We think intelligent long term investing is the way to go. But that doesn't mean long term investors can avoid big losses. To wit, the Goldstream Investment Limited (HKG:1328) share price managed to fall 55% over five long years. That's an unpleasant experience for long term holders. Unhappily, the share price slid 3.9% in the last week.

Given that Goldstream Investment didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
Over five years, Goldstream Investment grew its revenue at 1.9% per year. That's not a very high growth rate considering it doesn't make profits. This lacklustre growth has no doubt fueled the loss of 9% per year, in that time. We want to see an acceleration of revenue growth (or profits) before showing much interest in this one. When a stock falls hard like this, some investors like to add the company to a watchlist (in case the business recovers, longer term).

A Different Perspective
Goldstream Investment shareholders gained a total return of 21% during the year. Unfortunately this falls short of the market return. On the bright side, that's still a gain, and it is certainly better than the yearly loss of about 9% endured over half a decade. So this might be a sign the business has turned its fortunes around. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. For example, we've discovered 2 warning signs for Goldstream Investment (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
