Quest Holdings (ATH:QUEST) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year
Quest Holdings S.A. (ATH:QUEST) will increase its dividend on the 27th of June to €0.30, which is 36% higher than last year's payment from the same period of €0.22. This makes the dividend yield 3.5%, which is above the industry average.
Quest Holdings' Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, Quest Holdings' dividend was only 51% of earnings, however it was paying out 165% of free cash flows. This signals that the company is more focused on returning cash flow to shareholders, but it could mean that the dividend is exposed to cuts in the future.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 41.1% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 52% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Quest Holdings' Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
Looking back, the company hasn't been paying the most consistent dividend, but with such a short dividend history it could be too early to draw solid conclusions. Since 2021, the dividend has gone from €0.10 total annually to €0.22. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 22% over that duration. It is great to see strong growth in the dividend payments, but cuts are concerning as it may indicate the payout policy is too ambitious.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to evaluate if earnings per share is growing, which could point to a growing dividend in the future. It's encouraging to see that Quest Holdings has been growing its earnings per share at 15% a year over the past five years. The company is paying out a lot of its cash as a dividend, but it looks okay based on the payout ratio.
Our Thoughts On Quest Holdings' Dividend
Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Quest Holdings will make a great income stock. While the low payout ratio is a redeeming feature, this is offset by the minimal cash to cover the payments. This company is not in the top tier of income providing stocks.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
