What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Chief Operating Officer, Marcus Greensit, for UK£225k worth of shares, at about UK£2.25 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (UK£0.81). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. Marcus Greensit was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Between 2003 and 2011, gold nearly went 5x. Dollar went weak too. The gold companies did bad. It is worth noting that between 2003 and 2011, there was 2008! I will leave it your inference and research.
